Why procrastinate? Isn’t it like escapism? Why not just go do whatever it is that needs to be done? Many persons just can’t wrap their heads around just doing what is needed. At the end of the day it’s just too much to go do so much. But what about just breaking it down into small pieces? What about just taking one step at a time? As we know it’s not about the end of the journey, the destination but the journey itself that we should be focused on. As I remember writing in a previous blog, don’t focus on the mountain top but just put one foot in front of the other when climbing. I’m sure the persons that tackle the climbing of Mount Everest don’t keep looking at the peak but are focused on putting one foot in front of the other so they can get to that peak. That’s what life is about, one step at a time, one day at a time.
It’s so easy to procrastinate because it seems to make life easier as we just bypass whatever we should be doing. It’s like being in school and not studying because there is time but before you know it the time is gone. When time is gone that is it and we can’t get it back. I was talking to someone the other day and I said to her just do what it is that you have to do now, don’t wait. She said I just realized that as my life has passed me by when I wasn’t looking. That’s like so many persons who just looked up one day and 10 or 15 years have gone and we don’t even know where it went.
How do we even get over procrastination? How do we get ourselves going? That’s the only way to beat procrastination, getting started/going. If it’s too hard why not find a way to make it easier? Why not break up the problem into smaller pieces? After all the easiest way to eat an elephant is one piece at a time. I should know about this as I have to write my blog ever week. Believe me sometimes I don’t want to, but I just take out my phone, sit and write the title. That is usually how I start. Sometimes I get a quote and sometimes it’s a story. The important thing is to start. Just that push gets me over the hump. If I didn’t do that I would still be waiting to start the blog. The thing is I didn’t wait on perfection or lord know I wouldn’t have done it. My first blog is a testament to that. It was not even a good full paragraph. I however just went ahead and dipped my toe in the water. I realized it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. That’s what happen when we live in our minds. We see monsters where they don’t exist. 🤷🏽♀️

I know I do at times tend to put things off- due to fatigue, lack of motivation at that time, or loss of interest..maybe all three:) I think we are all guilty at times. When the behavior becomes chronic, habitual, then I would say that’s procrastination. I do believe one can overcome the habit- would have to identify root cause(s) first.
I agree re making tasks/projects more manageable…being a football (USA) fan, I prescribe using the chunck-block-tackle approach. chuck the task into smaller tasks, block out time, tackle task.
Makes so much sense. If only we would do what we should. Thanks so much. 🙏🏽
