Saturday gone the kids and I went grocery shopping. I try only going once a month, I don’t like shopping. Don’t care what kind of shopping, I just don’t like it. Anyway when leaving I saw these young people dancing by their car in the parking lot. I don’t know what music was playing but …. Don’t ask me why but one of the guys was all hyped and looked so happy. When I dropped off the cart I shouted to him, “please never lose that love for life.” He smiled even wider and shouted back, “I never will.” He then shouted, “come stir fry with me.” I laughed and said I don’t stir fry. He just laughed gave one of his friends the bottles he had in his hand and ran over to me and we stir fried. We had no music but we danced. And yes I can stir fry and bounce, kinda 😆. If you don’t know the dances, then visit YouTube university. It was fun. Yes there I was in the middle of a parking lot dancing with no music and enjoying myself. Those are some of the little things that can make you happy.
Interestingly I had been listening to old music in the car. I had thought earlier that the music I was listening to made me think about different periods of my life. The music of my teenage year and my twenties was the best. I don’t think it was because the music was better it was just that I remember that period of my life was in many ways carefree. It was nice. That’s the best way I can say it. Can you understand what I’m getting at or has the music never marked periods of your life?
Thinking back I can honestly say that’s when I know small things can make me happy. I would always just be grateful for the small things in life. I was happy to drive to the grocery store instead of having to take the bus. I was happy to have my kids with me. When I think about the things I’m happy for then life just seems so much better. Life is good.
The week before a friend called me to tell about something that happened to her, it was nothing really big but it made us happy. I remember saying to her how can something so small make us so happy. She said it’s the simple things that make life good. Do you agree with her or do you think it’s complexity that makes life?

You’re certainly on to something Andrea. It is the little things that make AND keep us happy. The using music to mark different stages in life is sooooo true… and as I get older I sometimes find myself feeling nostalgic about some songs… e.g. I can’t hear lean on me and not think of our 6th form school leaving ceremony. So friends don’t be afraid to stir fry or dirt or leggo di bird… just dance and enjoy the little pleasures of life… they do add up. Love and blessings 💕
The little things do add up. ❤️🙏🏽
Andrea, you’re spot on about the simple things that makes us happy. At least for me…As I get older, my mantra is ‘simplify your life”. When I listen to the popular music of the 70s & 80s it fills me such nostalgia…taking me back to life as a teenager & college student, to a simpler time when life was so carefree….. None of today’s stresses…
That’s the good old days for you. Life was carefree, before life changed to what we have today. But even then the little, simple things can make such a difference.
