“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”

Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu

It’s the beginning of a new year. I wish you all the best for 2022. I wonder what this year will bring for us all? Will things get better, stay the same or get worst? I am an eternal optimist and think it will improve. It has to improve. Rona needs to go. Who would have thought we would be two years into a pandemic. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. Things have changed and it’s highly unlikely they will go back to how they were before. Now we refer to life as pre and post Covid-19. Interesting, interesting indeed. Who would have thought one virus could have upended the world in such a manner? My question is will we learn from this or will it happen again? 🤔

Looking back at the past year I can say I have been blessed. It might not have looked that way initially but when I looked at what others have been through and are still going through I can only say thank you father. As you know gratitude is high on my list. Without it we have nothing.

Gratitude

If I only look at the negative things in life then that’s what I get, negativity. This is a fact and that’s why I don’t do drama and I try to be optimistic. Our thoughts control our lives. I prefer to be at peace then constantly upset with the world. It’s hard to explain to some but that calm makes such a difference in life. Besides when I am calm it’s less likely the world around me becomes turbulent. Turbulence in life serves no purpose. I know some live for the drama but is it really worth it? 🤔

So one day I was watching one of those reality programs, quite by accident as I usually don’t watch them too much drama, but this one was interesting and it made this quote come to mind. It’s was about families exchanging lives for a week. What made it interesting was that they were from two different ends of society, usually the top and bottom ten percent. Seeing how others live and not assuming how made a big difference. One set realized how blessed they were and could not take that blessing for granted and the other realized they could also do something similar. I remember this guy saying if the person had given him the money it would have lasted for a few weeks but mentoring him and teaching him gave him the wherewithal to help himself and his family forever. It’s when you ask can you move from one section of society to the other with hard work and perseverance? I think the answer is yes. Mindset is the key.

Mindset

Handouts wouldn’t and don’t work as it last for a brief period. It can also keep you in a state of poverty. That’s not to say we mustn’t help the less fortunate. I believe learning to “fish” can make life easier in the long run. As my grandma and mom would say “God help those who help themselves.” This is when you know that it makes sense to learn and keep learning constantly. The quote above is something that I have always heard from my mom etc. This is why my family had and will always have this great belief in education. My grandma always said that is one of the sure ways to move out of poverty.

Education

Some might be skeptical but I believe she was right. In addition to that you need to have ideas of where you are and want to go. You are the one that have to decide what is best for you. Sitting waiting for someone else to do things for you never works. I know I am preaching to the choir but you can never tell I might touch one person that never thought like that and that’s why I do this blog. 😁. Remember to share that way I can reach more persons.

Let me know as I really want to know what you are thinking, and I know others do too. Try commenting 👍🏽, but if you are not comfortable, reach out to me via any medium.
