I’m waiting to get the go ahead in traffic when I see someone from behind me swing around and go out into the main road. Vehicle almost got hit and he would have been wrong. I thought why so impatient. The thing is not even ten seconds after he did that and almost cause a major accident the other vehicles got the red and I was able to go out. Interestingly I passed him on the way because I was right behind him. Sometimes that’s how we behave in life and run up into a brick wall but what did we gain? Some would say experience but did we really learn, because very often we make the same mistake. You know nothing was learnt because we are there expecting a totally different result. It’s been said time and time again that’s the definition of madness. Why must we be so impatient? Is it because we have to control the situation and therefore be certain of whatever the outcome should be?
In today’s world speed is the order of the day. Why wait patiently? For many that makes no sense we must get to the next point quickly, literally and figuratively. We have to have every thing at the touch of a button. If we want to get a taxi, a flight etc there is no need to call anyone personally just use an app. There is no need to wait and if there is a wait it must not be long because, well just because. Even the act of waiting on feedback from someone else, don’t they realize it’s called instant messaging? Don’t they know when we order food it’s fast food? Everything must be at the speed of light. Even worst at the stoplights. As the light change we must go because heaven forbid we wait five seconds. I do that sometimes when at the front of the line in case someone decided to go through the red light because it was “just” yellow.
When we are kids we are so impatient to get older because, well just because. Growing up was a part of the journey that allowed us to learn about life. As we grew we learned how to become more resilient and build character. Many don’t see it that way because why wait and go through the process just go to the end as if it’s a book and you can skip the pages. It’s shouldn’t be like that we should exercise some patience and really enjoy the journey. For some when we speed up the process it epitomize success. But is it really success? With this type of mindset it can lead to frustration and a great level of dissatisfaction.
I see the constant need for instant gratification in some ways like a drug. We always have to have it and more and move on to the next fix. How do we move away from that and focus on setting realistic expectations? I guess for me it’s know that you are not comparing yourself to anybody but you. Your growth must be focused on how you can move from point A to point B and not on what the successful entrepreneur has achieved. The person might be considered an overnight success but you don’t know what they did to get there. You don’t know how long it took them to achieve what they have achieved. Take your time and enjoy the journey because it’s life and it’s made for living.
