Let me ask you, as you are on your journey through life have you been enjoying the journey or is it when you look back that you really appreciate the past? Is it in hindsight that you can see that although you think life was not great, it wasn’t really that bad? I think I have enjoyed some of the journey not all, but I won’t lie I can look back and appreciate many of the things that have happened to me, the good, the bad and anything in between. It look me a while to really appreciate what has gone before. As I like to say, life happens for you not to you.
I have noticed that when I stop and smell the roses is when I can really see with some clarity. Moving all the time and too fast makes you miss so many things. It’s at that slower pace that you can look back and see how the past and the present are connected. They also will matter for the future. I know we are told to always focus on the present but how will we set our path with some focus on what we want our future to look like. Planning is key. There is however a difference between planning and over planning. When one over plans it very often leads to analysis paralysis because we are focused on making it perfect. There is no way we can make the future perfect. What’s that saying “man plans and God laughs.” We can just put our foundation in place and plan as best as possible because the universe might not allow you to live the way you have planned. Who can tell what the future holds? The best we can do is try ensuing we go as best as possible along the path we think we should be on. If however a boulder or two should be dropped in the way we should stop and think. Is it really the right path or should we turn back or go on another path. This is when hindsight comes into play. We look back, connecting the dots and check ourselves if we are really where we should be.
I stopped recently and realize I was slowly getting back on that hamster wheel I had climbed off during Covid-19 and I had to take myself back off. I am not going back there. I would not been able to do that without slowing down and looking back. That’s when you have to ask yourself the pertinent questions. The questions that will make the difference in your life. You are the one that have the experiences so you are the one that has to do the analysis. You can’t expect anyone else to make the decisions for you. Yes they can help but you have to give the information as it’s yours. How do you make decisions? Do you do what feels best or do you look at all angles of the situation and then decide on what works best for you? Does looking back help or does it hinder the process?
