Every night before my children go off to sleep after they say their prayers they have to tell me one thing they are grateful for. We have been doing this for ages. You would be surprised at what they will think of, their minds are awesome. Recently my son said he was grateful for eye brows. I wanted to know why and he said “because without them your face would be naked.” I explained that they really were there to prevent sweat from entering the eyes. But seriously have you ever seen someone that shaved the eye brows and used the pencil to replace it? The face does look a little naked. 😂
Without gratitude you become selfish and egotistical as you assume all that has come to you was done on your own. You don’t see anything in life that’s good. And without gratitude nothing comes to you from the universe. I consider the universe to be that higher being that guides. Some call him/her the Almighty, God, Allah, Yahweh, Jehovah. We all pray to that one higher being.
The first thing I do when I open my eyes in the morning is thank the Almighty for giving me another day. Another day to spend with my husband, daughter, son and nephew-son (he doesn’t live with me anymore not even in the same country but we talk almost daily. One of reasons I love technology).
I remember telling one of my relatives that she was ungrateful because she bitched about everything. Nothing was going well, etc and that day she stopped looked at me and said you are right. From that moment you could see the transformation in her life. Her life became better because she was grateful for all that she had and grateful for what she would receive.
My husband and I always try to look at things from a positive perspective. No matter what happens we see the good in it. It makes such a difference and removes loads of stress from your shoulders. That’s something we are doing with our children. I remember after my nephew-son starting healing from a horrible disease, he said every one was surprised at his positive attitude. He attributed it to how I raised him. “We don’t cry over spilt milk, we clean it up and move on”. I know he will keep that attitude and therefore he can accomplish anything.
Tell me what you are grateful for and how having that positive outlook has made the difference in your life. If that’s not you then try showing gratitude and be assure it will make a positive difference in your life. See you next week, same time, same place. Subscribe and comment.
You are so right… your gratitude determines your attitude. There is so much in life to be thankful for… the good, the bad and the in between… they all serve to shape us. So grateful for my family and friends, including you.
Amen to that.
What an excellent practice to start with young children! I am so grateful that you shared this story… I may even try a weekly reflection with my girls. It’s one thing to habitually practice gratitude, but it’s another to systematically instill the value!
Glad I could inspire
Just yesterday i woke up with my three kids on top of me as usual. I took a picture of them and send it to their moms and said look at our blessings.im so grateful that i can provide for them everyday.
Oh my. That’s a blessing of the highest order. Be grateful for the job to provide for them.
I am grateful for my breath this morning, yesterday my ability to breath freely was compromised and I could have died. After much meditation and loving care, this morning I took a clear and effortless breath…Thank you God for my each and every breath.
Thank you God for life. We pray he will continue to wrap his loving hands around you.
Well said Andrea. It is written, GIVE THANKS IN ALL THINGS!
Amen
I am always giving thanks. I am known to say “Life is good, even when it aint.” Glad the kids are developing such a positive outlook.
A positive outlook also allows clarity.
I am grateful for life. I am blessed everyday and I know that anything I get is a gift for God.I love my boys my granddaughters and my husband with all my heart and I speak to the Lord through the day every day with praise and thanksgiving.
You are truly bless and you can never take it for granted.
This is sweet. We can learn so much from the young ones. Great practice Andrea. If only more parents took the time. What a world/workplace/life we would live in/experience.
I find that more and more persons, who were probably skeptical about God earlier in their life, are speaking “God-like” now and the matter of faith and trust in God is a common topic. When you explore further, you oftentimes hear that when they were children they used to have to go to church, or that they were from a religious family….. If we all think about it, the older we get, the more we practice the things we learnt as children.
Keep the inspiration going, AAP. Thanks
You are so right. Thanks much.
It is good the point of “Gratitude” was raised. A very valuable point.
A lot of us need to remember that our journey in life is powered by a Superior Being [God], without whom we will not exist. We should remember to be thankful for our success; and failures too, as we can learn from those experiences also.
In everything, we should express gratitude. A good practice/habit for your and all children to cultivate. I like that. In every little thing in life, we say, “Thank You”……
So true.
Gratitude is very important… I am GRATEFUL for my ALL.. The good, the bad and the in between… Especially grateful for my parents, my husband and friend ( lucky 🙂 and my 2 beautiful and healthy kids..
Amen. Love them like there is no tomorrow.
“…And without gratitude nothing comes to you from the universe.” Amen.
Amen
You know, it’s just today my son and daughter came to me in competition with each other asking for stuff. I suddenly realized l had to be looking up at them. I suddenly thought. ….where did my babies go?.
Andrea when l saw your postings, it brought back memories. We have so much to be greatful and thankful for.
I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts as it reminded me of what I should be greatful for. Blessings to you always.
I’m so glad I could get the thoughts going.
