I remember writing a blog about what you would say to yourself in the past if you had the chance, a friend indicated she would do nothing as she was sure she wouldn’t have listened to herself. We had a good laugh but now I wonder is it because she is one that has to have the experience in order to understand?
I know a number of persons that are like that. If they don’t feel they just can’t understand. I on the other hand don’t mind learning from the mistakes of others. What about you? Think about it, why would I need to experience all things when someone else has done it already. That’s why I don’t mind reading biographies or talking to persons older than myself as I find that I learn from them. Why would I need to experience something when someone else has been there done that and is willing to share? A friend’s son told me once that he wants to have the experiences himself as that’s how he learns. I remember saying to him but your parents and others you know have been down that path, but he insisted. I was a little lost and I had to asked why over and over again. I just couldn’t get his reasoning. Why get hit upside the head repeatedly if it has happened to others in the past. I guess all I can say is to each their own. It takes all types to make the world go round.
Don’t get me wrong there are some things that you have to experience for yourself in order to learn. Very often these are things that you should grasp as it happens the first time. The important thing is to learn from the experience and not make the same mistakes over and over again. I think that’s a sign of stupidity and madness to keep doing to same thing time and time again and expecting a totally different result. Maybe that’s just me. What do you think? Maybe I’m wrong that’s why I’m asking what is it that you must experience yourself in order to know that it’s an experience that makes a difference. If this doesn’t make a difference then why bother? Why continue down the beaten path? If someone else tells me that this is what they did and I don’t learn from that, then what does that make me?
I know some things such as traveling you should do yourself in order to feel the environment and the atmosphere. That’s one of the things my dad always said I should do as it’s those experiences that build your character. He however was very specific about where he would want me to go just to be safe. I didn’t think he was trying to limit my experiences he just wanted me to be safe as he knew because he had been there and done that. I was willing to learn from his experiences in order to enhance my life and my experiences.
On the other hand I didn’t think I had to drink an endless amount to alcohol, smoke and do drugs in order to have those experiences. I have seen the excess use of these in full effect. That I don’t need to feel in order to know. Well that’s what I think. How about you?

That’s what makes life so interesting- learning from our experiences & the experiences of others- the positives and the negatives. There are experiences we may want to try for ourselves, & there are others we may not..and even if we do not experience it, based on others’, we can understand how they feel-that’s empathy:))
A combination of both is as you say is the best. 🙏🏽
