“Boos don’t block dunks.”
Kobe Bryant
I keep hearing this quote and I thought how apt it was when I would think about the negative things people would say to us. The worst thing about it is that we would believe them and then wonder why things are not going the way we think they should. When you want to do something and some would say that dream is much too big. What do we do? Do we continue on the path that we want to go on or stop because persons we trust start booing? I know persons that have gone out on a limb to grasp their dream with both hands and watch others on the sidelines wishing they would fail. This either makes them more resilient or make them step back and give up that dream. Why can’t we be happy for others? Don’t do to others that you wouldn’t want done to you. Try living by the golden rule.
How do we get to the stage where we don’t allow the boos to stop us. How do we get to the stage where the negativity rolls off our back like water off a duck’s back? It’s not easy but it can be done. Imagine persons not liking you and putting all they can in your path to stop your progress but as the Bible verse says “If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31. We have to think in this way if we want to get to the mountain top. Remember it’s one step at a time. Don’t focus on the peak but the first step. Sometimes we forget this and allow the negative vibes to get in our minds. How do we get them out before they take root? Think positive because it can be used to replace those negative thoughts. Believe me it can. It’s the only way we can get the doubts to a minimum level. They will never go away but they can become so minuscule that they fade into the background. If we don’t live like that then doubts and imposter syndrome are always there.
Just know that when they boo you still should make your shots and dunk if you want to. Never let what others say stand in your way and stop you from reaching for the stars. It takes some years to get to the stage when you realize that there is no need to be the one that everybody has to like. It’s fine if some don’t like you as we can’t all be popular. Don’t believe me just look at Jesus. Not all persons will want to be in your corner, that’s just life. You have to decide if it matters so much that you will try desperately to be always liked or you just go do your thing. The persons with the hatred just ingested their poison and expect you to die. Ignore them and go do your thing. Be free as a bird. It’s your life so live it. I have to remind myself ever day that it’s my life and therefore I have to live it according to my wishes and no one else’s. And as I said in a previous blog if you realize that some persons in your life are just too negative and carry too much baggage keep them at a distance or cut them off.
Do you think you will ever get to the stage where you walk into a room and realize you don’t want to be there. If you have why did you feel this way? Have you ever got to the stage when you have grown beyond the persons that you were always around? Why do you think this happens?
