It is said you can’t control everything. The one thing you can control is not what happens to you but how you respond to what happens. What happens when you realize you can’t control things in and around us? Do we hold on or let it go? Do you agree? Some would say, yes it is possible to control what happens around you as you determine how your life moves, but is that really true? We all know no matter how you plan those plans can go awry. When the plans you made goes off in the opposite direction do you still try to control the situation or do you just try to control how you react to those changes and ensure you minimize the impact of the change? We can think of all the risks that could be ahead of us but sometimes we don’t catch them all and all the planning go out the door. The recession of 2008 was one that caught so many people off guard. For so many persons including members of my family lost so much. Pensions decimated, houses gone. What to do? Many just had to roll with the punches. Life does that, sometimes it’s unpredictable.
When you are a control freak and assume all that happens around you is yours to mold and sculpt into what you want, what happens when life doesn’t do what you want? No matter how influential you are or think you are life throws curve balls and you have no chance of getting things to go the way you want it. Not even money and influence can sometimes allow you to control everything. Just know you not God and therefore can’t control everything. It’s hard to not have the control of all situations that revolve around your life. So many play lip service to the concept of letting go and letting god. It’s not easy really letting go of everything and not having the control that I really would want to hold on to. Imagine knowing that you have all your plans in place and, bam out of nowhere something just throws everything out of whack. What do you do? Should you scramble to trying getting things back to where they were or do you bend and go with the flow? So instead of trying to control the situation you could respond as best you can to what happened and focus on that response. What happened is out of your control but if you decide to react in a positive manner then maybe it makes a difference. But what happens when the reaction is not positive? What happens when we do react in what can be considered a negative manner? Sometimes we just don’t think it is what it is, we just think it should be what I want it to be.
