My youngest child has an exam tomorrow that will have an impact on his life. It’s something that I had done so many years ago and here it is again. The first two did it and survived and so will he. I have told him it’s just a part of our life. Just do your best. That’s all I can ask of him.
I keep hearing about tests because of my son and his tests coming up but also because of Lent. The forty days and forty nights was all about tests. We also seem to have many tests throughout our lives. It might not be as intense but it still part of life. Are they test that we pass or fail or just tests that make us stronger or break us? Is it when that old adage “what doesn’t break you make you stronger,” really come into effect. Is it even true that if you don’t break when life piles on all the madness that you become a stronger being? 🤔. In my case I seem to gain strength when life push me to the edge. I push back and don’t allow it to break my spirit. I have to remain a glass half full person. This is where you have to ensure you protect yourself and make sure you take care of you. Interestingly I know persons that break under the pressure created when the tests happen. Why is it that some persons thrive and others don’t? Could it be the mindset? Is it just the way we think? Will the way we think determine how we experience life? Will it determine how we cope with the tests thrown at us?
I have gone through so many tests throughout my life and have not walked away unscathed but thankfully alive and kicking. So many times we get knocked down but as the saying goes from Zig Ziglar, “getting knocked down in life is a given. Getting up and moving forward is a choice.” It’s these tests throughout life that help to make us into what we are. I guess it’s just like putting pressure on carbon which becomes a diamond or coal. Some take the pressure and become stronger, while others don’t. How do we harness that pressure and put ourselves in a place of growth?
When we say tests many will think of school, but it’s beyond that. It’s all about life. Life itself after all is a series of tests. It’s beyond pass or fail it’s just ensuring you get as much out of your life that is possible. As I sit writing it dawns on me that with these tests we have to focus on ourselves physically and mentally. If we just try to go through life without taking care of our mental and physical health things might not turn out the way we want it.

Thanks Andrea as always for the post. I’m wondering if as humans we are being presumptive expecting life to go as we want. Therfore when it doesn’t, it’s a test that can make or break? Why are there only two options – make or break? What about prune, expose, show us, trim?
Lastly, are we not most than physical and mental? There is the spiritual side of us that not even atheist can deny. If we lean on only two legs of the stool, will we not topple over and …break?
My thoughts
Thank you my friend. Going forward I will also lean into the spiritual. The three legs of humanity.
Never mentioned the other options as they were never at the fore of my mind. That’s one of the main reasons I write to put my thoughts out there and get feedback. It makes life so interesting. 🙏🏽
