Someone asked me recently what I learnt from Covid and without missing a beat I said, “ less is more.” Also some things are just out of my control so accept and work around them. What about you? The thing is I now know what I really want or don’t want. What I really need and don’t need. Covid forced me like many other persons to re-evaluate my life. I mean really look deep within and think about what I really wanted to be a part of my life. Did I really need some of the things that were in it? I knew the answer was no. When Covid-19 shutting down the world basically two years ago I realized I was running on the hamster wheel and going nowhere. The thing is I don’t know if you like me were going really fast. How did we not fall off? I was forced to climb off and trust me I’m not going to climb back on. I can say without a doubt I was so tired and at the end of the day I could say it wasn’t worth it. Interestingly I was forced to spend more time at home with my family and that was great. It was not only time with my family but time with me and it was needed.
I had to guard my mental health jealously. If I didn’t I would have slipped into an area that I didn’t want to be and I would be the one to get hurt. I really had to struggle to make sure I was taking care of me. Over time it became easier. The thing about it was I noticed that persons around me really didn’t care what happened to me as long as they got what they wanted. I had to step back and really look at what was important and I knew it was myself and my family so I was able to pull back without any guilt. I had to work on making me happy in all circumstances as no one was going to do it for me. That’s when I saw persons in full tear down mode. I had to decide what I was going to do. Should I just allow them to do what they want and ignore the naysayers or become like them. I decided that I would stay me.
One day a little after the shut down I knew I wanted to revamp my garden and I realized I had to do it myself. It got done the way I wanted it and it was way way cheaper. You should have seen me setup my own irritation system. It made such a difference and now I don’t have to rush home to water plants or get up really early to make sure they don’t die and believe me I have killed too many of the poor plants 🤦🏾♀️. I am proud of me. I am glad I got the chance to do this. My gardens turned out great. Interestingly I realized at that time I do have a green thumb 😁. I like gardening, I like seeing the green around me. I really had stopped to smell the roses and was in no hurry to leave what I had achieved. Don’t take me literally as roses make me sneeze 😆 but you get the picture. I haven’t done well with the vegetable gardens but I still want to do them. A day at a time. One day it will get done so I can feed myself and family from the garden.
The main thing was I also had to be more creative financially as money got really tight as we lost about 50% or what we made per month. 😢. This is when I was glad we never lived beyond our means. It was not easy but we had to adjust as everyone else did. The world overall moved to working and communicating virtual over night. Covid force us to innovate and change our way of thinking. What has been done in less than two years would have taken at least five years if done at all.
I always was a healthy eater and I continued. It was not easy as the healthiest food is the most expensive. Did you notice? This is why I have to do the vegetable garden. I changed even the way I wear my hair. I went back to me and I just left it to grow. No more chemicals in my hair I just went back to how it should be. I noticed that there was no more scratching, no more flaking and the headaches were gone. It was just healthier for me. Overall I felt better. I also forced myself to be in a happy state of mind, it was necessary and it made that difference.
What have you learnt from Covid-19? Will you keep the changes you have made or go back to pre-Covid mode? Is what you have now you new normal or will it evolve as time go on or is it more likely to stay static? Let me know as I really want to know what you are thinking, and I know others do too. So true Andrea less IS more. A big lesson from COVID is to focus on what is important as the fluff we can do without.
Blessings my friend ✝️
So true we need to focus on what’s important. The thing is to ensure that we know what is important.
This is really a very pragmatic way of looking at what is for many, a very difficult time in our lives. The idea is that if we focus on everything, we will end up feeling like we have nothing. But if we focus on what matters the most in our lives, then we learn to value those things more.
Thank you Andrea
🙏🏽. Yes we have to focus on what matters. The thing is to know what is important and what really matters.
