Loyalty

When you think of the word loyalty, what comes to mind? Is it to the Almighty? To country? To the company you work for? Maybe knights in medieval days who swore allegiance and loyalty to lord and master? I think loyalty can be in any form. The thing though is when you give that loyalty should it be reciprocated or is it given freely? What happens when you give your loyalty but not even feeling appreciate? Is this a thing or loyalty should be given without any expectations? 🤔

In this day and age do you see persons showing loyalty to anyone? It used to be the norm but not so much now. Things and times have changed. Back in the day persons worked for one company forever and were loyal to the nth power. Fast forward to today and it’s nothing like that. What happened did persons become less loyal or did companies not show any loyalty at all? When I was growing up the adults around me stayed with the same company forever. When I started working I didn’t. Then one day I did stay I think for maybe too long. Was it loyalty or was it the trap of the golden handcuffs?

The generation after me sees it a bit different also and don’t see the need to stay with companies especially when they feel there is nothing to gain. Imagine you putting in all this work and not even a pat on the back. Interesting. Covid-19 showed many that the company bottom line is even more important than the people. After all it’s business. That’s when individuals decided that no loyalty to me means non to you and it became a part of the “great resignation.” It’s not only about the world outside now it’s also about you. Do you give and give until it hurts but receive nothing at the end of the day to justify all that you put out? For many it’s about protecting themselves as best they can from the situations they find themselves.

How do you feel? Should you continue to show loyalty or are you doing it to cement yourself in the environment so as to get something in return? Should you not show any kind of loyalty and just go with the flow? When you are fed up you leave or the reverse when they are tired of you they ask you to leave?

I haven’t even looked at this from a person to person perspective. That’s for another blog.
