I had written something to post today but the tears that fell this week makes it hard to not ask, can you see me? Do you really see me? Why are we still going through this? Why can’t you see we are all humans? Yes I am black but that gives you no reason to murder me especially by kneeling in my neck. Normally you would have gotten away with it, but a 17 year old angel was sent to film you doing the deed to show the whole world how evil you are. This must stop. The question is how? Must it keep happening and more black people die before everyone realizes that #blacklivesmatter. Yes I know all lives matter, but see me and then you will realize I am human. My life matters, the life of my children matter.
I live in a country where the majority is of African descent , our history is different but similar. Slavery was a part of the history, but we never had Jim Crow. That institution was like apartheid. I have been black in America and Europe and it could and was jarring at times. Coming from majority black to minority black environment is a culture shock. The comfort goes and that uncomfortable feeling is there and stays with you constantly. You try to do everything in your power to ignore it. Living like this all your life can’t be right and healthy.
How can the US now lecture any country in the world on human rights? It would be a case of “the pot calling the kettle black 🤔.” Pun intended.
Don’t get me wrong it is not an attack on the majority, it’s the bad apples. The ones with the privilege that don’t care. It’s the ones that think it’s fine to continue the old culture 400 years after. The ones that don’t see humans but a dark blob. Until that cultural start to move to “see me”, just as it did in South Africa we are in a quagmire. How do we move away and stay away? It can and must happen. It must be more than people having to demonstrate and kneeing to be noticed. Will the demonstrations make a difference or will it be just blowing smoke? I am living in hope this time. Change must come!!!!
